Prepare a scientific contribution, from abstract to presentation
DzCademia practical guide · 28 October 2026
Preparation methods and exercises provided by DzCademia. Each provider retains its own application or resource conditions.
Separate the deadlines
Record submission, notification and event dates separately. A date on a poster is not necessarily the application deadline. Resolve contradictory documents with the organisers and retain the version consulted before booking travel.
Build a demonstrative abstract
State the problem, evidence, method, result and limitation. Explain the contribution rather than only the topic’s importance. Separate completed results from planned work, and follow the actual committee’s language and format rules.
Select an argument-bearing example
Choose a figure, table or passage you can explain clearly. Identify the conclusion it supports and what it cannot establish. Check permissions for images, data and participants; slides should support reasoning rather than reproduce the manuscript.
Prepare for discussion
Practise explaining the question without reading slides. Anticipate questions about fieldwork, sampling, baselines and alternative interpretations. Treat an unanswered question as further work rather than an invitation to improvise certainty.
After the meeting
Keep the programme, presented version and feedback. Participation is not journal publication. Examine any proposed journal and its separate process. For an old event, look for a new edition rather than assuming the earlier form remains open.
Your DzCademia workshop
Build a useful conference contribution
A convincing contribution connects a precise question with evidence, a method and a result. Start with a verifiable case and explain what your analysis contributes to this meeting’s theme. Avoid promising work you cannot finish by the deadline.
A practical exercise
Write five lines: problem, evidence, method, expected or obtained result, limitation. Ask someone outside your topic to restate your contribution. If they cannot, narrow the question.
